Sometimes if you don't succeed, you really shouldn't try again.
Lincoln, Nebraska Police Chief Tom Casady said police arrested 40-year-old Edward Lee Shearer after he allegedly deposited a fraudulent $47,000 check he'd been sent in the mail.
Casady said the man had bit on a common Internet scam. Thinking he'd won the money, he tried to cash the check, which was fraudulent. Early in December he deposited the check in his bank account. The bank notified police when it came back fraudulent.
Casady said police gave him a serious lecture that no one simply sends a stranger a check for $47,000.
But apparently it fell on deaf ears. He said Shearer did it again on Dec. 17. Again, it was a fraudulent check, and the bank notified police.
Despite two prior occasions and a serious talking to, Casady said a few days later Shearer tried it a third time. He said they finally arrested him for felony theft, after he deposited another fraudulent check and allegedly took out $1,800.
