Some scam artists have ripped VISA credit card numbers and havebeen using them to purchase gasoline at a Sam's Club in Washington D.C. Luckily, VISA cards are insured against fraud so the victims of this scam will not lose a dime.
Visa USA credit card company has released the following statement:
"A U.S. based merchant may have experienced a data breach, resulting in the potential compromise of Visa card account information. Upon learning of the possible compromise, Visa immediately launched a forensic investigation and quickly alerted the affected financial institutions. Visa is working with the merchant and financial institutions to protect consumers through independent fraud monitoring and, if needed, canceling and reissuing cards. Additionally, Visa is cooperating with law enforcement in a criminal investigation.
"It is important for U.S. cardholders to know they are fully protected against unauthorized purchases with Visa's zero liability fraud protection. Visa will continue working with its Member financial institutions, merchants, and appropriate authorities to do whatever is necessary to protect cardholders.
"We encourage cardholders to always review account statements carefully and notify their card issuing bank of any unusual activity. Additional security tips are available at www.visa.com/security."
